📊 Keep your data in check & Avoid unwanted Consumption
Legend ... wait for it ... dary data management!
We’ve got you covered! Monitoring your usage helps you spot data-hungry apps or settings, optimise your plan, and avoid overages. Here’s how to keep your data in check and make every MB count!
⚠️ Important: you’re in control of your data
Kolet has no technical way to see, measure or control how much data your device uses. We can’t track your usage app by app, and we can’t slow it down or stop it for you. Your consumption depends entirely on your phone’s settings and the apps you use. That’s why it’s essential to check regularly where your data goes, so you don’t get caught out by an unexpected overage. The safest reference for your remaining balance is always the Kolet app.
👀 Check your data usage in the app
The Kolet app provides a quick and clear overview of your remaining data balance, so you always know how much is left.
📌 How to Check Your Data in the App
1️⃣ Open the Kolet app.
2️⃣ Navigate to the Home screen.
3️⃣ Find your remaining data balance under your active data plans.
This allows you to stay in control of your usage at all times!
⚠️ Note: There may be a slight delay before your data consumption appears in the app, as usage is only displayed once a certain threshold is reached.
📱 Check data usage on your device
Here’s a quick guide for iPhone, Samsung, and Google Pixel users, plus a few handy tips to help limit your data usage!
⚠️ Good to know: the data figure your phone displays is only an estimate. Many devices, and Google Pixel in particular, count usage against a billing cycle and a start date set by default by the phone, not by Kolet. So this number can reset, start from the wrong date, or simply not match your real Kolet consumption. Use your phone’s breakdown to spot which apps use the most data, but always rely on the Kolet app for your actual remaining balance.
👾 For Google Pixel devices
👾 For Google Pixel devices
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > your Kolet eSIM > App data usage, then scroll down to see which apps are using the most data.
💡 Tip: Pixel lets you set data warnings and limits to help manage data and avoid unexpected charges. Remember the on-device figure is an estimate, so cross-check with the Kolet app.
🔄 Data usage management : Efficient solutions !
1️⃣ Disable Wi-Fi Assist
1️⃣ Disable Wi-Fi Assist
Many smartphones automatically switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data when they detect a weak Wi-Fi connection. This feature is designed to keep your internet stable, but it can unexpectedly consume large amounts of mobile data without you realizing it.
For example, if you’re connected to weak or slow Wi-Fi, your phone might seamlessly switch to cellular data even if you think you’re only using Wi-Fi. This can lead to unintended data usage, especially if you’re streaming videos, downloading files, or using high-data apps.
📌 Why Should You Disable It?
✅ Prevents unwanted mobile data consumption when Wi-Fi is unstable.
✅ Ensures your phone stays on Wi-Fi, even if the connection weakens.
✅ Gives you full control over when your phone uses mobile data.
🍎 For Apple iOS devices
🍎 For Apple iOS devices
Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data), scroll down to Wi-Fi Assist and toggle it OFF.
🤖 For Samsung Android devices
🤖 For Samsung Android devices
Go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > (three-dot menu, top right) > Advanced, then turn Switch to mobile data (or Adaptive Wi-Fi) OFF.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Preferences, then turn Switch to mobile data automatically OFF.
2️⃣ Turn on low data mode
2️⃣ Turn on low data mode
If you want a quick and effective way to reduce data consumption, adjusting your data mode settings is the best solution. Instead of manually tweaking individual app settings, this system-wide change ensures that your device operates in low data mode, automatically restricting background data usage and unnecessary consumption.
📌 Why This Step Is the Most Efficient?
✅ Applies system-wide: no need to adjust each app manually.
✅ Automatically limits background data: prevents apps from consuming data when not in use.
✅ Stops automatic updates & syncs: reduces hidden data drains.
✅ Optimises streaming & browsing: helps apps use less data without losing functionality.

3️⃣ Stop cloud backups & syncing over mobile data
3️⃣ Stop cloud backups & syncing over mobile data
Photo and video backups are one of the biggest hidden data drains. A single trip’s worth of photos and videos can sync over mobile data in minutes, often without you noticing. Set your device to back up over Wi-Fi only.
🍎 For Apple iOS devices
🍎 For Apple iOS devices
Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data), scroll to the bottom and turn iCloud Drive and iCloud Backup OFF. For photos, also turn off Settings > Photos > Mobile Data.
🤖 For Android devices (Pixel & Samsung)
🤖 For Android devices (Pixel & Samsung)
In Google Photos > profile picture > Photos settings > Backup > Mobile data usage, set photos & videos to No data (Wi-Fi only). In Google Drive > Menu > Settings, turn on Transfer files only over Wi-Fi. Samsung: also set Samsung Cloud to Wi-Fi only.
4️⃣ Turn off automatic app updates over mobile data
4️⃣ Turn off automatic app updates over mobile data
App updates can download in the background and quietly use a lot of data. Limit them to Wi-Fi.

Open Play Store > profile > Settings > Network preferences > Auto-update apps and choose Over Wi-Fi only.
5️⃣ Limit background data
5️⃣ Limit background data
Apps can refresh content even when you’re not using them. Restricting background data stops these silent drains.
🍎 For Apple iOS devices
🍎 For Apple iOS devices
Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and set it to Wi-Fi (or Off).
🤖 For Android devices

Go to Settings > Apps > [app] > Mobile data and turn off Background data for your heaviest apps.
6️⃣ Lower streaming quality & turn off autoplay
6️⃣ Lower streaming quality & turn off autoplay
Streaming is the number one way to burn through data fast. In each app’s settings:
Video (Netflix, YouTube, Prime, Disney+): switch streaming or playback quality to Data Saver / Low.
Social (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X): turn on Data Saver and disable video autoplay.
Music (Spotify and similar): lower the streaming quality and download playlists over Wi-Fi before you go.
7️⃣ Mind your hotspot & tethering
7️⃣ Mind your hotspot & tethering
Sharing your connection (Personal or Mobile Hotspot) lets laptops and tablets use your Kolet data, and laptops consume far faster (system updates, cloud sync, video). If you tether, watch your balance closely and avoid large updates on the connected device.
❓ Why check data usage?
Understanding your data usage is a great way to manage your plan, and it helps ensure your data is being used as expected. By identifying apps that consume a lot of data, you can control their access or adjust settings to save data. And because Kolet can’t cap your consumption for you, keeping an eye on your usage is your best protection against unexpected overages.
